Pinwheels for Prevention: The Medina Township Police Department participated inthe Pinwheels for Prevention event on April 9, 2011. Safety Literaturewas distributed to children and Adults. The475 pinwheels placed outside the Children?s Center of MedinaCounty?s Highland Drive offices represented a case of child abuseinvestigated in Medina County last year. The pinwheels bring attention to thestark reality that child abuse happens everywhere. This is the fourthyear the Pinwheels for Prevention campaign has been held in Medina. This years 5th annual "Pick it Up" event was another success. Clean-up efforts involved community organizations, local businesses, and individuals cleaning up selected areas of Medina Township. This was a community effort and we would like to thank all those involved in making this happen. Special thanks to John Lerch from Home Depot, Chorey Howell from Wal-Mart, Bill Strazinsky from Sanitary Engineer Dept. Central Processing Unit. Thanks also to Antonios, Gioninos, Zeppes and Pizza Hut for providing lunch. Pick It Up is only possible thanks to the support of the Medina Township Police Department Community Partners, and the many Township businesses and individuals who support this event. The level of community involvement in this event speaks volumes on the quality of the people and businesses of Medina Township.

Drug Enforcement Administration on a Nationwide Drug Take Back Initiative. For the second year in a row, the Medina Township Police Dept. supported the DEA's Drug Take Back Event. We had an amazing turnout again, as in 2010, collecting garbage bags full of unwanted, expired prescription drugs. The Medina Twp. Police Department was used as drop-off location where many residents and senior citizen facilities can took advantage of disposing old or unwanted medications. We wanted to reach out to individuals and encourage them to rid their households of unused prescription drugs that pose a safety hazard and can contribute to prescription drug abuse.

ABC's of Summer Safety - Medina Meadows hosted its annual public safety event now known as ABC's of Summer Safety. Medina Township Police Department participated in this informational community event for school age children and their families. This event focused on preventing and protecting children from some of the leading causes of child injury. For the last five years, the Medina Township Police Department has participated with Medina Meadows in safety events.

3rd Annual Flag Day Event - Medina Township would sincerely like to thank our local Veterans Associations, youth service groups and military men and women, as well as local dignitaries who made this event a success. We had an amazingly great day while enjoying the Medina County Community Band, lead by Marcus Neiman. Mike Todd opened the ceremony followed by Pastor Jeff Kolodziej from Cornerstone Chapel giving the Invocation. Presentation of Colors was lead by Ron Kesek, Sr. Vice Commander VFW Post 5137. After Max Deka from Troop #462 lead the Pledge of Allegiance, Mike Todd announced the winners of the Fourth Grade Essay Contest. Madison Vedda (Northrop Elementary), was given a $100 savings bond from Medina Township Trustees for being chosen 1st Place winner.

Maggie Selva (Ella Canavan Elementary), was given a $50 savings bond for being chosen 2nd Place winner. The Key Note Speaker was John Wagner, Secretary Treasurer for the Tri-County Regional Labor Council and spoke eloquently on the importance of our flag. The Ohio National Guard Company G. 237th BSB retired the flag on the pole at our Hometown Hero?s Memorial. We had a gun salute from VFW Post 5137 Honor Guard then Taps was played by Paul Rocco, Soloist with Marcia Nelson-Kline, echo. The ceremony ended with Bill Batchelder, Speaker of the House of Representatives giving the Benediction.

Our Special thanks to George Santosuosso for once again providing a wonderful meal for all attendees. This is a special event Medina Township holds every year and we hope if you were not able to make it this year, please plan on attending 2012.

Cops and Kids - The Medina Community Police Academy Alumni Association invited the Medina Township Police Department to participate in the 2nd Annual Cops and Kids event. The event was held in the parking lot at Medina General Hospital. Over 350 people were in attendance. This was an opportunity for all ages to learn about safety in a variety of areas. This event brought more understanding and appreciation of services protecting the community?s safety including police, fire, ambulances, Red Cross and may other community professionals.

July 4, 2011

The Chief of Police, David Arbogast was very busy this year on the Fourth of July. He joined the Reserve residents and children, as he has been doing every year since he became Chief, in a red, white and blue celebration. It has been tradition for the children of the Reserve to decorate their bikes and follow the Police Cruiser around the neighborhood. He also participated in a mini parade at Western Reserve Masonic Community followed by riding in the Medina City Parade. It was a fun day for all.

JUNE 25, 2011 - BIKE TO BIKER

MTPD and Century Harley Davidson, this 4th Annual bicycle safety event was held for the first time at Medina Township Maintenance Building. We were hoping for a better turnout but were still able to offer training courses for the kids and hand out a wealth of information on bike safety.

OCTOBER 1, 2011 - HOME DEPOT SAFETY EVENT

With the combined efforts of various agencies, Home Depot accommodated us inside this year due to the weather. Again, with the funds from Community Partners, informational brochures and materials were handed out to the public.

OCTOBER 22, 2011 - MDG FLOORS FALL FESTIVAL

We had beautiful weather for the event on Saturday. MDG Floors had a bounce tent, pumpkin painting, pony rides and great refreshments. Medina Township Police set up a display table with literature ranging from Halloween Safety to Senior Citizen Safety. It was a fun day had by all.

SHOP WITH A COP - 2011

Medina Township Police Department's 2011 "Shop with a Cop" Program was a huge success again. We would like to thank all the generous people who purchased raffle tickets to buy the gift cards for a total of 23 children. After breakfast in Richfield, we transported the kids to the elementary school in Stow. Close to 100 cruisers and 311 kids caravanned with lights and sirens to Walmart and each child was able to spend up to $100 each on Christmas Gifts. After shopping, we went back to the school and had pizza, McDonalds, and other goodies. All the children expressed their gratitude and excitement throughout the day. The chaperones enjoyed themselves as well and it was a fantastic day for all.

As Chief, my sincere appreciation goes out to our Township Police Officers and Medina Township Fire Department for transporting and chaperoning the kids. A Special thanks to the Trustee Ray Jarrett and local residents who gave up their Saturday and volunteered to help chaperone the kids while they shopped. We could not have made this happen without all of you.

The safety events our police department coordinates or participates in are funded through our Community Partners Program. No monies from the Police Dept. budget is used to purchase materials or literature for these events and we are proud of the Medina Township Businesses who donate to the program.
